MAYS LANDING – Atlantic Cape Community College Chief Information Officer John Piazza, a 10–year resident of Cape May County, has been selected to participate in the County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Cape May County program.

This nine–month long program was created to cultivate informed, committed and qualified business, community, and civic leaders who may utilize the learned skills to bring forth positive change for the residents of Cape May County.

Piazza, who applied to the program after learning about it from two coworkers who suggested that he would be a perfect fit for it, is excited to learn new leadership skills that will not only benefit the College, but may also be used to help the residents of Cape May County.

“I've been managing and leading for 30 years, taken multiple leadership programs and earned college certifications, but I really want to learn about community networking, community exposure and the building of relationships,” said Piazza. “I would really like to take what I learn from this program and help the College’s Cape May County campus for the community.”

Following time–tested examples that have been used by other established and successful leadership programs around the United States, this program combines classroom learning with field experience to grow each participants’ skills as a leader. Those selected will learn leadership styles, strategic thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication, change management, conflict resolution and more.

Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about what is driving Cape May County today from the exciting projects and events happening to the important issues that require strong leadership to solve. At the end of the program, the participants will work on a capstone project where they will work together to create an innovative plan that addresses a critical need in Cape May County. These projects will be presented to a consortium of business and civic leaders with the goal of implementation.

Piazza is the third Atlantic Cape employee to be selected for this program in its 10–year history. The program recently began in September, is held the third Wednesday of each month through May and culminates with a mid–June graduation ceremony.
