MAYS LANDING – Atlantic Cape Community College is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Devan Blackwell to the College’s Board of Trustees. Blackwell, who was appointed to the role of Interim Executive County Superintendent of Schools for Atlantic County in August, fills the position on the board previously held by Leslie White–Coursey.
“On behalf of the Atlantic Cape Community College community, I am pleased to welcome Dr. Devan Blackwell to our Board of Trustees. Dr. Blackwell brings a strong commitment to education, community, and service, and I look forward to the perspective and experience he will bring to our Board,” said Atlantic Cape President Dr. Jason Abreu. “As Atlantic Cape continues to advance student success, expand workforce opportunities, and strengthen partnerships throughout Atlantic and Cape May counties, Dr. Blackwell’s leadership and insight will be valuable as we build on our momentum and chart the future of our college.”
A native of Southern New Jersey, Blackwell has served as the Education Program Development Specialist for New Jersey Department of Education for the past 12 years. He was previously the Atlantic City Board of Education’s Middle School LAL Specialist/OST Learning Specialist/classroom educator and Title I educator for 11 years.
“I am thrilled to serve as a trustee for Atlantic Cape Community College. As a trustee, I'm hopeful that I can encourage people to amplify the pursuit of possibility. I value all types of learning and all types of learning experiences, and in a role like this, I hope to just be able to just voice the importance of higher education,” said Blackwell.
Blackwell earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Language Arts & Literature from Stockton University; his Master of Arts in Media Studies from The New School for Social Research in New York City; and his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from Hampton University in Hampton, VA.
Blackwell will be officially sworn in during the September 22 Board of Trustees meeting at the Cape May County campus.
