Psychology

The Psychology degree offers a scientific framework for understanding the how and why of human behavior. Understanding the thinking, actions and motives of self and others has direct vocational use in many career areas, such as education, social work and allied health. Knowledge of psychology is required in many professional and paraprofessional fields. The program offers a range of courses designed to meet the varied interests and needs of undergraduate students. This degree can be earned part-time.

Atlantic Cape has a transfer agreement with Rutgers University-Camden for Psychology majors.  To ensure that the specific requirements of the transfer college are met, all students interested in this option should contact the department chair.

Upon Completion of this program students will be able to:

• Acquire the methods of inquiry and techniques used in psychology research leading to a comprehension that psychology is based on empirical evidence;
•  Describe ethical considerations in psychological research using animals, children and adults;
• Identify, question, compare and contrast various theoretical perspectives of human development;
• Distinguish and evaluate information from various sources using methods of inquiry;
• Apply major theoretical concepts of the discipline to practical examples of real-life situations and current issues;
• Identify their role and the role of psychology in the economic, political and cultural institutions of society.
