CAPE MAY – For 22 years, the generosity of donors, sponsors and supporters has allowed the Atlantic Cape Community College Foundation’s Annual Scramble ‘FORE’ Scholarships Golf Tournament to raise more than $1 million for student scholarships.

golf tournament raised $86,187The College reached this monumental seven–figure milestone by raising a record amount totaling $86,187 during the 22nd annual event on October 2 at Cape May National Golf Club. It is thanks to the continued support of dedicated Atlantic and Cape May county businesses and residents, who graciously donate their hard–earned money to the College to provide students with the opportunity for a brighter future.

“Thank you to our sponsors for your generosity and thank you to the Mullock family for hosting us. For the past 22 years we've been at Cape May National Golf Club the Mullock family has been incredibly generous to us. Our golfers keep coming back year after year and we are just thrilled to reach the $1 million mark. That means a lot because 100% of those funds go to the students. That's a million dollars in scholarships to students in the last 22 years just from this one event,” said Chief of Staff and Foundation Executive Director Jean McAlister.

Cape May National Golf Club President Robert MullockFor Cape May National Golf Club President Robert Mullock, he’s incredibly proud to provide the resources, from scholarship funds to donations to the College’s Cape May County campus library, that are critical to student success at Atlantic Cape.

“For me, it’s important that young students that are coming out of high school have some support to get those first two years of college done in a financially efficient manner. We want to help those students that have difficulty getting money together for college. It's not just young students either, it's, for example, mothers that have to get into a new job, a new profession, such as nursing or teaching. The number of people that we can help out gives us tremendous honor,” said Mullock.

Mullock is particularly pleased when all of the hard work of raising funds for scholarships makes a tangible difference in a student’s life.

“I actually feel like the biggest thrill is when we award the scholarships to the students. It allows us to, not only help with scholarships, but also, to support and give donations to the library. The money that we make here is used in a good way because it helps people who need it the most.”

Atlantic Cape President Dr. Jason Abreu presents award to Ken Calemmo of Cooper LevensonRaising this vast sum for the benefit of students takes commitment from many long–time supporters, including alumni and business partners from throughout the community. Atlantic City–based Cooper Levenson, Attorneys at Law were presented with an award recognizing the firm’s unwavering support for the golf tournament and the College’s students. Ken Calemmo, chief operating officer, Cooper Levenson, Attorneys at Law and first vice president, Atlantic Cape Foundation Board of Trustees accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

“Cooper Levenson’s relationship with the College goes way back before my time and my time started 37 years ago with Jim Cooper. Our relationship with the College is important to the community, it is a big part of the fabric of this area and we feel that we want to support that.”

Jay Tarbell from Golden NuggetJay Tarbell, vice president of human resources, Golden Nugget Atlantic City represented the casino hotel property that has also been a long–time supporter of the tournament and raising funds for student scholarships.

“This golf tournament is a great opportunity for us to contribute, give back to the community and help the College, which educates our local students. The amount of money that's been raised here over the years is just amazing for the next generation of students. For them to be able to get that type of scholarship opportunity, to be able to then develop themselves and make their dreams come true is such an amazing accomplishment,” said Tarbell.

Cape May National Golf Club Golf Director Zach MullockZach Mullock, director of golf, Cape May National Golf Club and Mayor, City of Cape May was ecstatic to learn that the tournament has raised over $1 million over the past 22 years at Cape May National.

“I think it's just so wonderful to be able to give people an equal opportunity. The biggest thing is to give people that little extra help to start their life, start a new career or, a new job opportunity. That's what we want to do in Cape May and Atlantic counties, to help people get the opportunity in life to better themselves and their families. It’s also great at the award ceremony when we're giving out those scholarships and students can put face to the name. You see then how much it's really affecting people's lives and it's just a beautiful thing,” said Mullock.
