Annual Student Government Association Recognition Ceremony Honors Accomplishments of Clubs and Organizations

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Atlantic Cape Community College’s Student Government Association (SGA) recognized the important contributions of its many diverse student clubs and advisors, while acknowledging and honoring some of the College’s finest and most dedicated students, staff and faculty members at the SGA’s Annual Club Recognition Program at Harbor Pines Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township on May 7.

Clive Morgan, outgoing SGA president and rising Hospitality Management graduate, kicked off the evening by looking back at the many accomplishments and memories created by the students and clubs during the past year.

Every club has contributed leadership, volunteerism, creativity, advocacy, or simply creating spaces where students can feel connected and empowered,” said Morgan. “Thank you to our advisors, faculty and staff for your continuous encouragement for our students to continue striving for excellence, building community, and most importantly, believing in making a difference.”

Lisa Givens, assistant director, Student Engagement, thanked President Dr. Barbara Gaba on her impending June 30 retirement after nine years of leading the College. Student club members created a historical montage video for Dr. Gaba highlighting some of her fondest memories at Atlantic Cape.

“Thank you so much for that video. I was really surprised. Going through the years, it took me down memory lane and I really appreciate that,” said Gaba, who is proud of the way the students and their respective clubs created unforgettable moments beyond the classroom across the campus.”

Rewrites accepts its award“I've been very pleased to see all the events and activities that have taken place at the College this past year thanks to the SGA, and the student clubs and organizations. So much has happened at the College outside of the classroom. The things that you do through the student clubs and activities is so important to enriching the lives of our students,” said Gaba. “Continue to create meaningful opportunities for our students to get involved, participate in campus life, build community, and make a lasting impact across the College.”

Special awards were presented to the following SGA clubs and recipients in the following categories:

  • Earth Day Award winner: Rewrites Literary Club
  • Hall of Fame Award winner: Circle K
  • Student Spotlight Awards: Alexander Barr and Oscar Gomez
  • Beacon of Light Award: Jessica Gustafson, mental health/basic needs specialist, Center for Student Success
  • Above and Beyond Award winner: Thomas DiPietro, grounds working foreman II, Facilities 

Members from the College’s 22 student clubs were recognized and honored with certificates for their dedication and accomplishments over the course of the 2025-26 academic year.

Samantha Adelman, SGA student engagement specialist, presented awards to the following members of the 2025-26 SGA Executive Board:

  • New SGA President Jayed Hasan Sourov receives gavelStudent Club Coordinator Jayed Hasan Sourov was recognized for “going above and beyond to ensure that every club has the support, answers and resources needed to be successful.” As the incoming 2026-27 SGA president, Sourov was also presented with the ceremonial gavel by Morgan.
  • Student Government Secretary Katarina Bulic was awarded for “doing an exceptional job of keeping each of us organized and on track; ensuring that important discussions and decisions are recorded and playing a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly.”
  • Student Government Vice President and Treasurer Kenya Cruz Antonio was recognized for “always being ready to step up and lead whenever needed; by keeping club requests organized, and is always eager to plan activities and bring people together.”
  • Student Government President Clive Morgan was awarded for “always taking the time to check-in with SGA members, no matter how busy his schedule was, and connect with fellow students, creating positive and meaningful relationships throughout campus.”

SGA executive board members honor Lisa Givens on her impending retirementAt the conclusion of the evening, Adelman and the SGA executive board members honored Givens, who is also retiring on June 30, for her decades of guidance, support and leadership to the students of Atlantic Cape.  

“Thank you for the lasting impact you have made, not only on me as a leader, but on generations of students throughout your time at Atlantic Cape. Your dedication, guidance and care have shaped so many student experiences in ways that will continue far beyond tonight,” said Adelman. “On behalf of all of the students here and the many more who could not be with us this evening, thank you. Please know how deeply appreciated you are and how meaningful your work has been to so many. Congratulations again and we wish you a happy and well–deserved retirement.”
