MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Alpha Delta Mu chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society and Psi Beta Honor Society in Psychology officially swore in its 2025-26 inductees during its annual induction ceremonies on Wednesday, April 15 in Walter E. Edge Hall Theater on the Mays Landing campus.
Atlantic Cape President Dr. Barbara Gaba recognized the dedication and commitment of every student from both honor societies.
“Congratulations to all of you. Your induction reflects the dedication, discipline, and achievement required to excel in your college coursework. Membership in these prestigious organizations will open doors for you and will provide you with opportunities to grow as a scholar and as a leader. Being a member shows that you are disciplined, focused, and perseverant. These qualities are essential to your success in college and in life. By keeping up the hard work you can easily achieve your dreams and your aspirations. Your efforts make Atlantic Cape an institution of excellence, and we're honored to celebrate with you this evening, your achievements.”
Alpha Delta Mu chapter of PTK President Jade Phomsouvanh spoke about the benefits that await each student who becomes a member of PTK.
“Membership in PTK is offered to students who demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service. Being part of PTK connects you to a community of high–achieving students and provides opportunities for personal growth, professional development, and a meaningful engagement in your campus and community. PTK is more than just an honor society, it is a community that celebrates dedication, perseverance, with a desire to make a positive impact on your campus in a variety.”
Dedicating themselves to the PTK’s platform of scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service, the 60 newly-inducted members were each called to the theater’s stage by PTK Advisor Dr. Raymond Keller where they signed the honor society’s membership book, and were given a symbolic flower and candle.
PTK recognized its 2025-26 officers: President Phomsouvanh, Vice President of Service Cole Manganaro, Vice President of Fellowship Andrea Cornejo Sanchez, Vice President of Scholarship Het Patel and Recording Officer Jake Harris.
Psi Beta advisors Assistant Professor of Psychology Madeline Barrows and Senior Adjunct Professor of Psychology Christine Scarpa inducted 33 members into the honor society.
“Psi Beta provides national recognition and serves as an aid for stimulating interest in psychology as an academic in a professional field of endeavor. The knowledge gained from the study of psychology is applicable to any career the student may choose. Through Psi Beta, students feel a sense of community with others in psychology as they learn more about the larger field of psychology,” said Barrows. “Members are eligible to win national awards in research and community service, but above all, membership in Phi Beta is a well-respected credential for achievement and acknowledges interest in psychology early in one's educational career.”
Psi Beta recognized its 2025-26 officers: President and SGA Representative Breyanna Adams, Vice President Amber Miller, Secretary Jalana Peters and Treasurer Shelby Barnes.
For more than 100 years, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society has recognized students’ community college academic success and given them opportunities to develop professional and leadership skills, earn scholarships, explore career paths and make their world larger. PTK also strives to provide community and campus service.
The Psi Beta Honor Society recognizes the academic excellence of students in psychology at two-year community colleges. Atlantic Cape’s chapter was created in 1996 by Dr. Marty Marino and was recently restarted as an active student club in time for the 2022-23 academic school year.
