Jason Abreu, Ed.D., has been appointed Atlantic Cape Community College’s next president and will serve as president-elect until he succeeds Dr. Barbara Gaba following her retirement on June 30, 2026.

Jason Abreu, Ed.D., has been appointed Atlantic Cape Community College’s next president and will serve as president-elect until he succeeds Dr. Barbara Gaba following her retirement on June 30, 2026.
Jason Abreu, Ed.D., is a first-generation, visionary and student-centered higher education executive with more than 20 years of leadership experience across the K–20 continuum, including more than 15 years in senior-level higher education administration. He is widely recognized for cultivating collaborative, data-informed cultures that advance student access, equity and success while strengthening institutional effectiveness, operational performance and service delivery. Grounded in his lived experience, Dr. Abreu brings a deep, personal commitment to expanding opportunity and removing systemic barriers for historically underserved student populations.
Dr. Abreu currently serves as Vice President of Student Affairs at Tarrant County College’s Trinity River Campus, where he provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive and integrated portfolio. He also maintains shared oversight for key enrollment management and business operations and has championed institution-wide strategies that align people, processes and technology to better serve students. His work includes integrating student-facing services, expanding wraparound supports and leveraging data analytics and performance indicators to close equity gaps and strengthen recruitment, retention, progression and completion outcomes.
A strong collaborator with faculty and academic leadership, Dr. Abreu works to identify and remove barriers to student learning, enhance classroom engagement and align co-curricular and academic experiences to support holistic student success. Beyond the institution, he is an active community partner, working with local organizations, nonprofits and industry leaders to address basic needs insecurity, workforce readiness and access challenges. His efforts have included securing external funding and building sustainable partnerships that extend the College’s impact and improve the student experience both on and off campus.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Abreu held executive-level leadership positions in South Carolina and Florida, where he led complex student affairs operations, strengthened compliance and data governance infrastructure and advanced cross-divisional partnerships to improve institutional systems and processes. His leadership approach consistently emphasizes aligning strategic vision with operational execution to drive measurable outcomes, institutional agility and long-term sustainability.
In addition to his administrative leadership, Dr. Abreu has served for more than 12 years as an adjunct faculty member, including more than a decade in the community college sector. His teaching, mentorship and professional service reflect a deep commitment to developing the next generation of educators and leaders. He brings extensive experience in strategic planning, accreditation and institutional effectiveness, fiscal stewardship and external partnership development across K–20 systems and community stakeholders.
Dr. Abreu holds a doctorate and master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University and a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University. He is a graduate of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Certificate in Student Affairs Law and Policy. He is the recipient of numerous local and national recognitions, reflecting a steadfast commitment to student success, organizational excellence and transformative leadership in higher education.
