“Study at Atlantic Cape to earn transferable credits to four-year universities, become part of a close community, enjoy personal development by meeting new people, earn scholarships, join honor societies like PTK, utilize free tutoring to keep up your good grades and more.”

What are your plans after graduating?

I am going to find an internship this summer and practice living alone. I will then finish my industrial engineering degree at Rutgers University New Brunswick (I am awaiting a response from Columbia and Princeton universities. Depending on their responses I may move to New York City or North Jersey.)

Why did you choose Atlantic Cape?

It was the closest option to my home to finish learning the English language. I also chose Atlantic Cape because of its transfer benefits, such as the PTK scholarships and the quality credits to complete my bachelor’s degree.

What opportunities has Atlantic Cape provided you?

Leadership opportunities in student clubs, mentoring from my professors and administrative personnel, scholarships and affordability.

What activities, clubs or sports were you involved with during your time at Atlantic Cape?

I was active in Los Latinos Unidos (Latino Club), Atlantic Cape Review, Radio Club, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Engineering Club.

Describe the biggest challenge(s) you faced and how you overcame it/them.

Trying to feel a sense of community and belonging on campus at the beginning. This affected my stress and mental health. I overcame this by joining student clubs, creating the Latino Club, meeting new people and finding additional social activities outside campus.

Did you attend classes at Atlantic Cape in-person, online, hybrid or remote?

I attended classes in-person.

Who would you like to thank for helping you achieve your college or career goals?

Professor Frank Toriello, as my science professor for three consecutive semesters, has guided me since I started with my academic goals and mentoring. He also wrote letters of recommendation for me to Columbia and Princeton universities. Victor Moreno helped me to successfully create and establish the Latino Club. Professor Effie Russell helped motivate me to trust in myself. Professor Rich Russell helped me revise my personal statements multiple times while applying to Columbia, Princeton and Rutgers universities, and he helped me fill out my transfer applications.

What does graduating from Atlantic Cape mean to you?

It means having the chance to have an academic comeback after my first two years studying in Peru from 2020-22.
