“I further developed my skills in business and marketing while attending Atlantic Cape by exploring the College’s student clubs and activities, and by working for two years as an intern in the College Relations and Marketing department. Here, my efforts directly influenced project outcomes. From this opportunity I received a summer internship to work with a Black-owned business.”
I am attending Rutgers University and enrolling in its Marketing program. I also received a summer internship with The Charismatic Chemist where I will work with a black-owned business in North Jersey. I am also considering pursuing a master’s degree and/or additional certifications in the future.
Affordability. I was advised to complete my first two years at a community college to save money.
I explored the student clubs and extracurricular activities to see how I could further develop my skills in marketing and business. I have also had the chance to work in an environment where I could learn processes and skills in a nurturing setting. I spent nearly two years as a marketing intern in the College Relations & Marketing Department, which accounted for nearly 80% of my work experience.
I was involved with Men of Atlantic Cape (MAC), which allowed me to participate in student adjunct meetings, volunteer at the Restaurant Gala and engage as a student speaker before the New Jersey Legislature Senate Meeting on community college budget funding restoration. I also took part in the Student Government Association.
Taking Calculus I, yet it could be my most rewarding course at Atlantic Cape. Two weeks into the class I contemplated switching classes, but I needed it for admission to Rutgers, so I then thought of changing schools. However, with the encouragement from others around me, I accepted this challenge and resolved to give it my all. Thanks to the excellent and passionate teaching from my Professor Salerno, and many hours in the tutoring center, I was able to overcome Calculus’ challenges and even scored a 95 on an exam. Taking Calculus gave me the confidence to pursue other math and analytics-based courses. I am now confident in my ability to tackle these more challenging parts of my studies.
I attended classes in-person.
I would like to thank Nicole Thompson in the Marketing Department for laying the groundwork for me to learn valuable skills in a forgiving environment, and all of the members in the department for creating such a welcoming environment. I also want to thank Rashawn Martin, Jerome Ingram and Eric Stewart who were very supportive of me, and to all of the other members for always encouraging me to grow, and for giving me opportunities and resources to strive forward.
