Notice: Add/Drop Registration Deadline Adjustment for Inclement Weather

Due to the impending storm, the College has approved a one-day extension of the Add/Drop registration deadline through Tuesday, January 27, should campus operations be impacted or closed due to inclement weather on Monday, January 26.

Our Student Services departments (One-Stop, Enrollment, Advising, and Bursar) will continue to assist with registration changes during the extended period, if needed.

Atlantic Cape’s Three Campuses to Celebrate Black History Month throughout February

MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College begins its month-long celebration of Black History Month on Monday, February 2 with numerous open-to-the-public events, panel discussions, educational forums, presentations, cultural awareness events and two Pan-African flag raising ceremonies.

Atlantic Cape’s Mays Landing, Atlantic City and Cape May County campuses will each host numerous student-centered and open-to-the-public events throughout the month of February.

The African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey will return to the Student Center on the Mays Landing campus with its self-paced historical display titled “The Northside: Redlining in the Sand” and a documentary screening on the history of the famous Atlantic City North Side and Chicken Bone Beach on February 26. The Worthington Atlantic City campus will host two public events with the Hakeemu Drum Performance on February 4 and the Southern New Jersey Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club on February 11.

Mays Landing Campus Events

 

Black History Month Information Table & Giveaway, February 2-28, Student Center/G-Lobby: Visit our Black History Month information table in the lobby to learn important Black History facts & enter to win a giveaway bag of Black History-themed items.

Pan-African Flag Raising, February 3, 12:30 p.m. Quad/G-Lobby: Flag raising led by Black Student Alliance (BSA). Immediately following the flag raising ceremony, join us in the Student Center for refreshments, giveaways and live entertainment by Kotchenga Dance Company, featuring joyful drumming and vibrant traditional village dances of the Ivory Coast. Refreshments and giveaways provided on a first come, first served basis. This event is open to the public.

Hair Me, See Me 2: Loc’ In, February 10, 11 a.m., Student Center/G-Lobby: Hair Me, See Me is back! This year it’s all about celebrating Locs. A panel of experts will perform a live demonstration. Refreshments and giveaways will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Sponsored by Black Student Alliance (BSA). This event is open to the public.

Exhibit: The NORTHSIDE: Redlining in the Sand & Documentary Screening, February 26, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Student Center/G-Lobby: The African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey will present a historical display featuring pictures and articles of African Americans and Labor.

Documentary screening by ArtsCNow, 12:30-1:30 p.m. ArtsCNow will present a documentary film on the history of the Famous Atlantic City North Side and Chicken Bone Beach. This event is open to the public.

Black History Month Paint & Sip, February 26, 5:30 p.m., Student Center/G-Lobby: Come out and celebrate with us while creating your very own painting for Black History Month! We will be serving light refreshments and mocktails. RSVP on CampusGroups to reserve your seat. Sponsored by Black Student Alliance (BSA). Seating is limited and refreshments are first come, first served basis.

Black History Month Information Table, February 2-28, 2nd Floor Lobby: Stop by our information table to learn Black history facts and grab educational materials.

Opening Ceremony & Flag Raising, February 2, 12:30 p.m., Campus Grounds: The Pan-African Flag will be raised to commemorate the beginning of Black History Month. Students in attendance will receive red, black, or green cupcakes. Refreshments are first come, first served.

Hakeemu Drum Performance, February 4, 12 - 1 p.m., Cafeteria: Join us for an African drumming performance highlighting traditions that are among the oldest forms of communication, storytelling, and cultural expression in African societies. Light refreshments are first come, first served. This event is open to the public.

Southern New Jersey Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club Presentation, February 11, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., Cafeteria: A presentation demonstrating the rich history and contributions of the 9th and 10th Black Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, who served in the U.S. Army from 1866–1944. Light refreshments are first come, first served. This event is open to the public.

Black History Month Essay Contest, February 25, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., Cafeteria: Essay topics include:

  • Why Black History Is American History
  • The Role of Young People in Advancing Racial Justice Today
  • What Black History Month Means to Me as a College Student Today

GUIDELINES:

Essays must be at least 500 words and not exceed five minutes. Students must read their essay aloud in front of an audience. All participants will receive a trophy, and one winner will be selected to receive a $30 Amazon gift card. Sign up in Student Services, Room 145.

 

Cape May County Campus Events

 

Black History Month Information Table & Giveaway, February 2-27, 2nd Floor Lobby: Throughout the month of February, students can visit the Black History Month information table on the second-floor lobby to learn important Black history facts and enter to win a giveaway bag of themed items.

Black History Month Scavenger Hunt, February 2-27, 2nd Floor Lobby: Utilizing different hints and clues around campus, students can complete a Black History Month scavenger hunt to win a $25 Amazon gift card. Scavenger hunt goals will be provided in the second-floor lobby and can be submitted at the front desk.

Black History Month Trivia, February 16, 11 a.m., Cafeteria: Students are welcome to join in on a game of Black History Month Trivia in the cafeteria. The winner of the trivia game will win a $25 Amazon gift card.

SoulFULL – Soul Food Inspired Lunch & Music, February 24, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Cafeteria: Students can enjoy a soul food-inspired lunch while enjoying some jazz, hip-hop and R&B music. First come, first served.

Black History Month began in 1925 as Negro History Week and 51 years later, in 1976, during the nation’s bicentennial, President Gerald R. Ford asked Americans to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
