CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Cape May County campus kicked off its 20th anniversary celebration on Saturday, August 10 by hosting the Jersey Shore Half/5K/10K City Tri Run at its Court House South Dennis Road location.
Nearly 500 participants took part in the event on a beautiful, sunny and warm late summer afternoon on the rural campus. The runners followed a course that traversed the adjacent bike path, parking lot and trails while family, friends and supporters cheered them from start to finish.
Atlantic Cape Director of Science Labs Dr. Terri-Lynn Hamby took part in the 5K and finished with a time of 36:12. Cape May County campus and Community Outreach Director Krista McConnell finished with a time of 37:22. Assistant Professor and Chair of Aviation Operations Tim Cwik tested his stamina and completed the grueling 13.1-mile half marathon.
Each individual race participant was encouraged to donate to the Atlantic Cape Foundation upon registration. City Tri Runs also committed to making a percentage-based donation to the Foundation based on the total number of registered participants.
The Cape May County campus will officially celebrate its 20th anniversary on Saturday, October 11, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. as part of a joint festival-style event in collaboration with the Cape May County Puerto Rican Action Committee in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.
"We are honored to celebrate 20 years of service to Cape May County. The Cape May County campus has become a dynamic hub for the community by providing resources for our small businesses, advancing workforce development and offering high-quality higher education. Our commitment to meet the needs of Cape May County residents remains steadfast," said McConnell.
The 68,000-square-foot Cape May County campus opened in August 2005 with two distinct wings that house an information common area with library and computer lab; a 100-seat lecture hall; a full-service cafeteria; and 19 classrooms - including chemistry and biology labs, three academic computer labs, two continuing education computer labs and one distance education classroom.
In addition, the campus provides support services facilities, including counseling, testing, tutoring and financial aid offices as well as administrative offices at the new campus. Students may access computer labs, state-of-the-art science labs, tutoring, testing, counseling and financial aid services, as well as faculty and administrative offices and One-Stop Welcome Center.
The Cape May County bizHub opened an office on the campus in September 2023 to provide free support and address the unique needs of Cape May County residents, as well as others interested exploring opportunities in a pro-business community offering a great quality of life.
