Atlantic Cape to Host Summer Transition Success Workshops for High School Graduates with Disabilities

MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Center for Transition Success will host three, three-day no cost learning workshops at the college’s Mays Landing and Cape May campuses for high school graduates, up to age 24, with intellectual and developmental disabilities this summer.

These workshops will cover topics that include college classroom readiness, study skills, time management, college and community resources, career exploration, socialization and self-advocacy.

"The Center for Transition Success is excited to expand on existing services by providing Summer Transition Workshops. These workshops are designed to equip students with essential foundational skills and enhance their awareness of the resources available as they transition from high school to adult life,” said Susan Smith, director, Center for Transition Success. “The topics covered will help students gain a clearer understanding of their personal postsecondary goals and develop actionable plans to achieve them."

Sessions will be held at the Mays Landing campus, July 16-18 and August 13-15, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. daily; and at the Cape May campus, July 23-25, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. daily.

The Center for Transition Success, part of Atlantic Cape’s Workforce Development division, provides individualized transition services, educational opportunities, career exploration and connections to community resources to high school graduates with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they transition into independent, productive and meaningful lives.

This program is free and funded by the County College-based Center for Adult Transition Grant, which is administered by the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE).
