MAYS LANDING — The Atlantic Cape Community College Archery Team raised $380 for The National Breast Cancer Foundation when it hosted its annual “I Shoot for the Girls” Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser on Saturday, October 15 at Atlantic Cape’s Mays Landing campus. Just over $4,000 has been raised for breast cancer research since the archery team began hosting this event in 2018 at the college.

Students from Atlantic Cape and Rowan University’s archery teams, as well as non-students of all ages, took part in the event, which featured archers in the categories of Under-15, Under-18, 21+, Novice Collegiate, Collegiate and 50+. From each $25 entry fee that was received, Atlantic Cape’s Archery Club donated $20 to The National Breast Cancer Foundation.

This event served as the archery club’s opening event for the 2022-23 season. Atlantic Cape, under the guidance of Head Coach John Repnicki and Assistant Coach Chad Affrunti, will host four tournaments this season at the Mays Landing campus: Eastern Starboard Championships, November 19-20; Holiday Open, December 10; New Jersey State Championships (Southern Venue), February 4-5, 2023; and Spring Outdoor Collegiate Invitational, April 8, 2023.

Atlantic Cape sophomore archer, Jared Lancaster of Galloway, who garnered recognition as an All-East Team selection and placed 3rd overall in the Outdoors All-East Regional last season, spoke about the upcoming season and the importance of the day’s fundraiser.

“I am looking forward to all of our new archers continuing to improve, while I hope to break my personal record of 496,” Lancaster said. “This is a great event because it benefits everyone and makes money for the charity.”

Another sophomore, Chloe Cramutola of Hammonton, agreed. “This event is great for the charity, plus we can have fun while also helping the school and everyone else. It’s a cool event too.”
