Hispanic Heritage Month at Atlantic Cape

ATLANTIC CITY — National Hispanic Heritage Month will kick off at Atlantic Cape Community
College on Sept. 15 with two flag raising ceremonies and will continue over the next 30 days with a
series of events for students and the community.

“At Atlantic Cape, we are proud to celebrate the contributions of Hispanic Americans to US society and
culture through a variety of programming designed to be both educational and fun,” said Dr. Natalie
Devonish. Vice President, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

National Hispanic Heritage Month begins Sept. 15, which is significant as it marks the Independence
Day for several Latin American countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras,
Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its independence on Sept. 16.

Atlantic Cape, a federally recognized Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), will be offering programs at
all three campuses and virtually to celebrate.

The flag raising ceremonies will begin at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 on the grounds of the
Worthington Atlantic City campus and in the Quad of the Mays Landing campus. The Mays Landing
event will be followed by dancing, including live music by the Rick Reyes Trio.

On Monday, Sept. 26, the Cape May County campus will host ¡Presente! A Latino History of the United
States Virtual, a Smithsonian Exhibit Presentation, at 11 a.m. in Room 111.

Join Chef Monti Carlo via Zoom at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 for a virtual Latinx Cooking Demo to learn
how to make Puerto Rican lunch. Join via Zoom at Join us on Zoom for cooking demo.
