Atlantic Cape’s CMC Campus Launches 12-Week Seasonal Semester

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE—Atlantic Cape Community College’s Cape May County Campus will offer the “12-Week Seasonal Semester,” a semester that “works around your schedule,” this spring. The college recognizes Cape May County’s seasonal economy and the need for workers during peak summertime months. Additionally, the Fall 2019 semester will begin Sept. 30, giving students the opportunity to work through the last busy month of the summer season without having to choose between financial stability and their educational goals.

“The Chamber applauds Atlantic Cape Community College for introducing this creative scheduling program for Cape May County residents who struggle to balance overlapping work and class schedules.  In a seasonal tourism driven economy such as ours, work schedules often prevent students from enrolling in classes during the traditional academic calendar.  I see this a tremendous benefit to students as well as businesses who need their employees in September and May,” remarked Vicki Clark, president of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce.  

The spring classes offered run from Jan. 22-April 20, accommodating those with work schedules that reflect the summer tourism industry in the local community. Classes offered include English Composition, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Statistics, Public Speaking, Psychology and Child Psychology, Criminal Justice and Fundamentals of Drawing, Intro to Theater and Intro to Acting, Intro to Government and Politics, Music and Art Appreciation. Workforce Development courses being offered are Wildlife Photography, Personal Fitness Trainer, How to Buy and Sell on eBay, Serve Safe and Social Media Marketing Professional.

According to Maria Kellett, Dean of Cape May County Campus of Atlantic Cape Community College, "It’s a great opportunity for students to earn credits towards their degree in an accelerated program. This Seasonal Semester is truly designed with Cape May County resident's busy schedules in mind." 

Registration begins on October 29th for returning students and November 1st for new students. Students are encouraged to register early to secure their spot in the classes they want. Students can apply in person at our Cape May campus or online. Normal registration hours are weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last day to register for classes in person is Jan. 18. Atlantic Cape was recently selected as part of New Jersey's "Community College Opportunity Grant," a pilot program that provides 'free' tuition and fees for qualifying students.   If a student’s adjusted gross income is under $45,000, they are enrolled in six or more credits in Spring 2019, and have applied for federal and state aid– then they may be eligible for this grant. In most cases, financial aid is available to students. Students may also be eligible to receive a Pell Grant for their spring classes. Students can visit www.atlanticcape.edu/finaid to apply.
