Gerald Fox is Atlantic Cape Community College’s 2022 Employee of the Year.
Fox was selected by his peers out of a group of 15 full-time employees at the college. The announcement was made during a Zoom meeting with Atlantic Cape President Dr. Barbara Gaba on Thursday, Feb. 3.
“You’re an asset to the college and you set a positive example for all of us on the Atlantic Cape team,” Gaba told Fox.
“Thank you, guys. I wasn’t expecting to win but I’m very appreciative,” said Fox, a previous two-time Part-Time Employee of the Year, upon learning of his selection.
Fox, 30, of Galloway Township is a program coordinator in the Instructional Technology department. He began his career at Atlantic Cape in 2015.
“We are the folks who work with Blackboard, which is the online learning system for all of the courses here at Atlantic Cape. The best part of this position is no two days are ever the same,” Fox said. “You never know what awaits you when you walk through that door! Luckily, we have an awesome team here that tackles these challenges head-on and with a sense of humor.”
On his nomination form, Fox – who goes by “Jerry” – was said to go “the extra mile to assist both faculty and students.”
Fox said that in the last two years he has been really focused on the remote aspect of teaching and learning.
“I’m very proud of our teaching efforts through training and one-on-one meetings. There are hundreds of courses and thousands of students each semester now using Blackboard in one way or another. We pride ourselves on doing our part in preparing these students and teachers for the ever-evolving online classroom,” he said.
Fox said he is deeply honored and overwhelmed by the support of his colleagues.
“All of the nominees, many of whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with, would have been fantastic selections as well,” he said.
Fox said he takes his career day-by-day, because that is the nature of working with technology.
“My position today looks drastically different than it did when I started in this department in 2018,” he said. “My goal is to grow as the position grows.”
When he is not at work, Fox is often watching sports. He is a self-described “long-suffering Detroit Lions fan,” but also enjoys watching movies at home. He said that he looks forward to the Oscars each year as much as he does the Super Bowl.
“If it wasn’t already evident by the Ninja Turtles cookie jar on my desk, I’m still just a big kid at heart,” he said.
