In Memory of Professor Richard B. Benner

We regret to report the passing of beloved retiree, Professor Richard B. Benner.
Richard Benner joined Atlantic Cape Community College as an adjunct instructor in 1995 securing a full-time assistant professor position in 1999, named associate professor in 2010 and earned the rank of professor of Philosophy and Religion in 2015.
Richard served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962 where he earned a medal for Good Conduct. After his military service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in general social sciences from Villanova University and a master’s degree in foundation studies in education from Florida State University.
The 2004 recipient of the distinguished Lindback Award, Richard’s 22-year commitment to Atlantic Cape also included serving as Arts and Humanities Department Chair, Arts and Humanities Area Coordinator, co-advisor for Phi Theta Kappa, advisor for pedagogical ensemble, book reading discussion leader, chair of the Curriculum Committee, served on the Academic Standards Committee, Instructional Resources Committee, faculty search committees, and he volunteered to represent Atlantic Cape on the State General Education Committee.
In his spare time, Richard enjoyed nature, hiking and photography. Some of his photography has been on display in Atlantic Cape's Art Gallery.
Professor Benner retired December 31, 2017.
Per Richard’s wishes, funeral services will be private. Information regarding a scholarship in Richard’s memory will be shared in the near future.
